The Community-Based Education Division was established as an institutional, collaborative effort between the primary care disciplines (Family Medicine, Pediatrics, and Internal Medicine) developed to administer and provide quality clinical education and service experiences that can effectively and efficiently mold primary care oriented and community-responsive physicians.

Division's Objectives

The Community-Based Education Division has the following specific objectives:

  • Provide the administrative support and organization of Community-Based Resources for the primary care departments throughout the Medical Curriculum Program;

  • Develop a Community Medicine Program to operate throughout the four-year curriculum;

  • Establish liaisons or partnerships with community-based primary care physicians and clinical practice organizations that will serve as a resource for clinical experiences throughout the medical curriculum;

  • Develop and coordinate community service experiences for medical students with underserved and high-risk populations;

  • And, establish a Community Preceptor Computer Network to improve the coordination, implementation, and evaluation of community-based resources and curricular offerings and to provide support intercommunication and other services to community preceptors.

The CBED was developed as part of an educational grant. This project was sponsored by the Academic Administrative Unit HRSA/BHPR GRANT 5 D12 HP 00024 for the years 2000-2003.
