It is not uncommon that the
demands of a psychiatry residency precipitate the need for personal
therapy. Residents are encouraged to obtain personal therapy during
their residency training.
The Program Director or any member of his staff can assist a
resident with a list. The program director needs to be informed of
personal therapy, which necessitates absence during the workday. The
training director will assist the resident in making arrangements,
which do not interfere with training. Personal therapy is a
completely private arrangement between the resident and his or her
therapist.
