The Minority Biomedical Research Support (MBRS) program was created in response to a legislative mandate to “increase the numbers of underrepresented minority faculty, investigators and students engaged in biomedical and behavioral research, and to broaden their opportunities for participation in research.”

To accomplish these goals, the Research Initiative for Scientific Enhancement (RISE) program supports institutional grants that provide outstanding minority students well-integrated developmental activities so they may increase their preparation, knowledge and skills to successfully complete a Ph.D. degree and advance to competitive postdoctoral positions.
