Professional Certificate in Family and Couples Therapy

 

Program Description
This professional certificate provides training to address couples and family therapy. It is geared to:
  • Psychologists
  • Psychiatrists
  • Social Workers or Counselors
  • Primary Care Physicians
  • Professionals holding a license and at least a Master’s degree in areas related to family interventions.

The primary goals of the Certificate Program in Family and Couples Therapy are:

  • To develop or enhance the competencies of licensed mental health or health professionals in therapeutic interventions with couples and families.
  • To develop or enhance the competencies of licensed mental health or health professionals in the knowledge of systemic interventions and in the cultural, ethical and legal implications of couples and family therapy practice.

The duration of the program is approximately three trimesters.
Courses are held on Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 pm

 

Admission Requirements
  • Submit official graduate transcript evidencing the successful completion of at least a Master’s or Doctoral degree from an institution of Higher Education.

  • Submit a copy of the professional license.

  • Three letters of recommendation

    • Two of the letters of recommendation should provide input from people in responsible position who can comment on your academic, employment or volunteer performance, character and interest. For undergraduate this often means professors, academic advisors or employer.

    • The third letter must be of someone who is able to asses your advocacy experience. All of these should be written using the format accompanying the application form.

  • Certificate of No Penal Record (Criminal Background Check)

  • Application fee - $100 (USD) non-refundable
     

The Program Director and several faculty members select the best candidates. PSM looks for accepting candidates with high integrity and maturity that show concern for others, leadership potential and character among other qualities. In evaluating the applicants, emphasis is placed upon the following:

  • Potential to work with individuals, analytical skills and understanding of ethical standards of the profession.

  • Motivation and emotional stability

  • Letters of recommendation (see previous description)

  • Interview

Upon acceptance, all students are required to submit the following:

  • Written confirmation of acceptance and a deposit of $100.00 to secure your seat in the entering class.

  • Physical Exam

  • Evidence of up to date immunization certificate, including Hepatitis B.

  • Other documents will be notified as pertinent

Tuition and Fees

The estimated cost of the whole program is approximately $6,500 including tuition and registration fees.
