community. We are available for a wide range of issues, including:
personal issues, career decision, and academic skills. The
Professional Counselor may refer some situations to specialized
professionals. All professional counseling, psychological and
psychiatric services are offered through the Office of Students
Affairs.
People come to Professional Counseling Services seeking:
-
personal growth and
greater self-understanding,
-
healthier psychological
functioning,
-
options to cope more
effectively with difficult or stressful academic situations,
-
counseling to deal with
broader life issues,
-
counseling because of more
serious, troublesome, and/or chronic difficulties in their
lives.
Counseling is a developmental
process that helps people explore issues, understand problem-solving
strategies, and develop ways to apply those strategies to change
their current situations. Counseling is a formal process whereby a
professional counselor and a client engage in a relationship
designed to address or manage any or all of the following: the way a
person thinks (cognition), the way a person feels (emotion); and the
way a person acts (behavior).
All new entrance students are encouraged to get an appointment with
one of our Professional Counselors to make an Initial Interview
during the first semester. All students in need of Counseling
Service in any moment of his/her academic year should feel free to
set an appointment with one of our Professional Counselors as soon
as possible.
