The Dean of Student Affairs
and the Guidance Counselor offer workshops for a better
understanding of the match, residency, fellowships, the National
Residency Matching Program (NRMP), and Electronic Residency
Application System (ERAS). Our objective is to provide medical
students with the information, resources, and experiences necessary
to make good career decisions and to be successful in the residency
match.
Quoting Roadmap to Residency: “Information about the training paths
for many specialties and subspecialties is available on the Careers
in Medicine Web site. The Graduate Medical Education Directory (the
“Green Book”) published annually by the American Medical Association
(www.amaassn.org/ama/pub/category/3991.html) also lists contact
information for 8,250 ACGME-accredited and combined specialty
programs and 1,700 graduate medical education teaching institutions,
data for and descriptions of all specialties and subspecialties, and
American Board of Medical Specialties medical specialty board
certification requirements. Another key AMA resource is FREIDA
OnlineŽ (Fellowship and Residency Electronic Interactive Database
Access, www.amaassn.org/go/freida), an online database containing
information on 8,200+ graduate medical education programs accredited
by the ACGME, as well as on 200+ combined specialty programs. FREIDA
permits comparison of specialties on such factors as length of
training, program size, number of faculty, work and educational
environments, and compensation, as well as on the career plans of
graduates from various specialties as reported by their program
directors.”
