She is the Coordinator of the Behavioral Medicine Fourth Year Elective. She is also a member of the faculty for the Psy.D. She was the Residency Training Director at Dr. Pila Hospital/PSM Family Medicine Residency Program since 1996 until June 2003. She performed her fellowship training in Faculty Development at the UNC-Chapel Hill Faculty Development Program. Her special interests are in Geriatric Teaching and End-of Life-Care issues. Since July 2003 she is the Family Medicine Geriatrician Coordinator for the Community and Geriatrics Division. RAFAEL IVAN IRIARTE, MD, DABFM, ABPM; Professor, Ponce School of Medicine, Box 7004, Ponce, PR, 787-840-2575; He teaches a component of the FCM-721 course, which includes Epidemiology, Biostatistics and Preventive Medicine. Dr. Iriarte has been recipient of Humanism in Medicine Awards given by the Healthcare Foundation of New Jersey and the AAMC. He joined the department in 1985 after completing the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Faculty Development Fellowship at the University of Iowa. He has served in positions such as Residency Training Director, Associate Dean of Admissions, Associate Dean for Student Affairs in Ponce School of Medicine, Chairman of the General Curriculum Committee of the Institution and coordinator of the Medical Ethics Course. MALYNIE BLANCO, MD, DABFM, Associate Professor. Ponce School of Medicine and Health Sciences, P O Box 7004, Ponce, PR, 787-840-2575; is a graduate from the Ponce School of Medicine and Health Sciences and also from the Dr. Pila/PSM Family Practice Residency Program.  She joined our Department on April 2002 and was the Family Practice Residency Program Director at Dr. Pila Hospital from October 2004 to June 2009.   She is the coordinator for the Fourth Year Primary Care Selective in Family Medicine.  SPECIAL INTERESTS: Family Practice, teaching residents and medical students, community medicine. mblanco@psm.edu

 

JAIME RODRIGUEZ ARIAS, MD, DABFM, CAQ-GM, Professor; Instituto de Medicina de Familia del Sur, Ponce, PR, 787-840-4460; SPECIAL INTERESTS: Geriatrics, Fellowship in Faculty Development-UNC Chapel Hill; Former Chairperson 1998-2003. Dr. Rodriguez-Arias has been working in the Department since 1983. He took a training fellowship in Faculty Development from the UNC-Chapel Hill Faculty Development Program in 1987. He has been Undergraduate Coordinator, Assistant Residency Training Director, and Associate Dean for Student Affairs.  He has been productive in developing and implementing Training Grants in the areas of Curriculum Development and use of Standardized Patients in Teaching and Evaluation. He precepts third and fourth year medical students and has a special interest in geriatric medicine.  Dr. Rodríguez-Arias was the recipient of the Humanism in Medicine Award given by the Healthcare Foundation of New Jersey in 2001.
