The culminating experience is
one trimester integrating requisite mandatory for graduation for the
Master in Public Health. The purpose of the Culminating Experience
is to provide an opportunity for students to reflect, integrate and
synthesize the knowledge and skills acquired during classroom and
practice experiences while pursuing their public health degree. The
CE serves as evidence of acquisition of public health competences
and occurs after majority of course requirements are completed.
There are two options for culminating experience approved by PSMHS
Public Health Program, either a culminating exam or a “capstone
project”. This course syllabus describes the capstone project. The
capstone project requires that students apply public health
competences and principles to the development or implementation of a
special project in a selected domain of professional public health
practice. The product of the capstone project will be an oral
presentation and a formal paper. Students can ask for input or
feedback during their preparation of the capstone project but each
individual must independently prepare a product with a unique focus.
The guidelines for capstone project are available in the student
manual Culminating Experience Guidelines.
