Title of Project: Function of HIV-1 TAT 2 nd exon in cytokine dysregulation

Dates of award: 06/01/02-05/31/05

This is a study of the in vitro properties of three forms of Tat (Tat72, Tat86, and Tat101) to alter expression of MCP-1, IL-8, and TNF-alpha in U87MG cells. The three aims are to examine the dose response, examine the time course, and finally, to determine the location of action (intracellular/extracellular or extracellular only).

Title of Project: Viral Sequences in Pediatric HIV infection in PR

Dates of award: 10/01/03-06/30/08

Aimed at assessing the viral correlates of pathogenicity, this is a study of the viral sequence variation at three loci in two groups of Puerto Rican HIV-1 infected children.
