Incoming Ph.D. students must meet the admission requirements of the graduate program in biomedical sciences at PSM. To view a complete list of application requirements and obtain an application to the Ph.D. program, please click here.

To apply to the PSM MBRS-RISE Program you must complete an application and submit all required documents to the Ph.D. program admissions office no later than January 15. Additionally, you must submit a separate application to the RISE Program, also due January 15. Click here to download the RISE application form. RISE admission decisions will be made after students have been officially accepted into the PhD program.

For incoming (first year) students, the RISE Institutional Advisory Committee will evaluate the following criteria:

  • GPA (3.0 or higher)

  • GRE scores

  • Research experience

  • Post-bachelor’s coursework in medical sciences

  • Presentations

  • Publications

For students already in PSM’s Ph.D. program, the RISE Institutional Advisory Committee will evaluate the following criteria:

  • GPA (in Ph.D. program)

  • Years in thesis laboratory

  • Presentation at national meetings (as a Ph.D. student)

  • Number of submitted fellowships

  • Publications (as a Ph.D. student)

  • Defense of research proposal

  • Letter of recommendation from lab/research mentor

To be eligible, students must be U.S. citizens or non-citizen nationals/permanent residents, and must be matriculated full-time in the doctoral degree program in biomedical sciences at Ponce School of Medicine.
