This year PRI is partnering with the PHSU Specialized Center in Health Disparities (also known as the RCMI Program, Grant U54MD007579) to have the 17th PHSU-PRI Annual Scientific Conference and the 1st RCMI Health Disparities Symposium all together on May 7, 2022, at the Hilton Ponce Golf & Casino Resort. This will be a full-day event with concurrent poster and oral sessions in Basic Sciences, Behavioral, Clinical Cases, Clinical Studies and Public Health. We will also host scientific plenaries and panel discussions in areas such as diabetes, metabolic syndrome, obesity, hypertension, and cardiovascular diseases.

On behalf of the RCMI Organizing Committee of 2022, it is our honor to welcome you to our 1st RCMI Symposium on Health Disparities here in Ponce, Puerto Rico.  For over 35 years, the RCMI Program has contributed significantly to PHSU’s human and physical research infrastructure development by recruiting top-notch talent and acquiring state-of-the-art facilities, equipment, and other resources required to pursue competitive basic, behavioral, and clinical research. We aim to highlight the recent discoveries and the latest research developments regarding health disparities and provide a broad understanding for our first symposium.  This year we will focus our panel discussions on the topics of Diabetes & Metabolic Syndromes, Hypertension & Cardiovascular Diseases, and Obesity. This is highly relevant in view of the fact that pronounced health disparities in these diseases occur in our Puerto Rican population.
